Bollywood Babes Scouting For Houses In LA with An Eye On Hollywood

While getting a huge break in Hollywood remains on that elusive to-do list for B-Towners, some lucky few are already rubbing shoulders with the West.

What started as Bollywood’s jaunt to Hollywood with actor Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, has now moved on to Bollywood’s latest export,  actor Freida Pinto, who’s known to splash out money at plush properties around the world with Dubai and London being the hot-spots. While Freida has more or less made Hollywood her base, she apparently is still not thinking of shifting to the US permanently. The actor, who has worked with a number of international directors, is currently living in Los Angeles. A source reveals, “Freida has been in LA since her Slumdog Millionaire days. She is currently living in Los Angeles though there were rumours that suggested she had moved to the UK to be with boyfriend Dev Patel.”
For Freida to make a headway in LA is no small  feat, as it’s  known to be the hub of Hollywood. And this is a fact that has caught the Indian film industry’s eye. If industry sources are to be believed, there are a lot of Bollywood actors who are either looking to buy a property there or living there.
Actor Mallika Sherawat, who was conferred with Honorary Citizenship and Official Resolution by Los Angeles, has apparently made the city her home. Grapevine also insists that she  owns a plush property amongst the A-listers of Hollywood.
In recent times, actor Kangana Ranaut, who is supposedly dating a guy in the US,  is also apparently looking out for a property in LA. The actor, who has always wanted to own a house in LA, has reportedly finalised on a house there. Reveals a source, “Kangana has always wanted to own property abroad, especially LA. She has already set her heart on an  apartment and though she remains tightlipped about it, she has splurged on a lovely place in LA. She is also very interested in working in Hollywood, so having a property there only makes sense.”

With Bolly babes making a rush for LA, one won’t be surprised if actor Priyanka Chopra too ends up buying property in LA, as she is been there for most part of the year working on her international music album.

Mallika Basks In Cannes Glory

Among the Indian celebrity women present at Cannes, Mallika Sherawat raised many eyebrows with her attire on the red carpet.

She made a splash and got wide acclaim for her looks. Mallika got a thumbsup from her fans for wearing French designer Ali Mahdavi's creation.

She even credited the designer with a tweet syaing: "Wow,red carpet HUGE SUCCESS, landed full page GALA mag,thx Ali Madhavi for the beautiful dress:)"

The actress is thrilled about two things: One, the success of Cannes and two, a good review for her film "Politics of Love."

She tweeted a scanned copy of a newspaper clipping with: "GRET review by LA TIMES for Politics Of Love, wanna share with my tweeple:)"

Mallika is one of the few Bollywood stars who's trying to make a crossover to Hollywood. Besides "Hiss" and "Politics of Love", the actress has also starred in a Chinese movie "The Myth" opposite Jackie Chan.
Everytime she goes abroad, she makes it a point to catch up with the star. In fact she did the same during the 65th Cannes International Film Festival too. She tweeted: "Met my old friend Jackie Chan, was great to catch up wt him, Will post pics soon:)"

This was Mallika's fourth appearance at the prestigious international event. Interestingly, she was invited by The American Foundation for AIDS Research (AMFAR) this time.

The bold actress who's presently busy with her next movie "Kismet Luv Paisa Dili", is riding high on Cannes success. An excited Mallika wrote on her Twitter page: "Cannes was a HUGE SUCCESS,feels great to be back home in India, grateful to ma fans 4 their support:)"

Once back home, it was time for some family bonding . And looks like the Cannes has had a great effect on her fashion sense as she posted a picture of her decked up in a sizzling dress for an outing with her bro! She wrote: "Getting ready to go out with my bro @vikramsingh." And her fans aren't complaining about her style statement.

Bollywood Meets Hollywood

Here's to two heady four letter words that make the world go round... "Food" and "films". Here, in Los Angeles, in the dreamland of creativity and eternal sunshine, I find that Bollywood meets Hollywoodand food reigns supreme.
I love the exuberance of lyrics and poetry and more so that of the high-octane, provocatively witty genius, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shree Javed Akhtar. Here in Hollywood he leads an international "mushaira". And if it's Hollywood, it's got to be the "Pretty Woman hotel" (the movie was shot here) Beverly Wilshire where eight decades of Hollywood history distils itself. Here, elegant history tangos with youthful energy. The grace of stately centuries melds with high octane new age gusto. This is where both Hollywood and Bollywood (No! Javed saab does not approve of that term) stays and dines.

From Bollywood to Hollywood: Jay Leno Drives Tata Nano [Video]

The story of the Tata Nano starts not in Hollywood, nor in Bollywood, but on the streets of India. That’s where an increasing number of people are finding motoring more affordable thanks to glorified rickshaws like this car.

Inside Tata Motors’ assembly plant, Jay Leno’s own Nano gets built, and a company official describes how this is the best alternative for four-people families who want to stop traveling on a motorbike. Yes, four people on a motorbike - don’t act like you didn’t know they did that in India.

What’s even stranger is that this 2-cylinder car that supposedly costs only $2,700 in America can’t be sold there because it’s totally unsafe. What most likely happened is that Jay just agreed to help Tata promote their cheep car with the power of the internet. This explains why Leno wears a suite that’s twice the price of the car... for the lols.

Bebo’s Size Zero Inspires Film

Back in 2008, Tashan may not have made much of a mark at the box office, but the film’s lead actress sure did. A skinny Kareena Kapoor made all the news, sparking off the size-zero revolution in Bollywood.

The inspiration is hardly surprising when, four years since, an upcoming film is

Heroine taking a toll on Kareena's health
Bhansali confirms Kareena-Ranveer in next
titled Size Zero – Everyone’s Losing It. The filmmakers admit it readily. “Yes, the inspiration came from the craze associated with Kareena’s size-zero trend. When she lost weight for Tashan, the entire nation was talking about it,” says producer Siddhartha Jain, CEO of iRock Productions. “Suddenly, women were talking about protein and carbs more than anything else.”

Siddhartha is quick to clarify, though, that the film’s story isn’t inspired by Kareena’s life. “It’s a fictional tale of a girl who is under pressure from her fiancé to lose weight. In essence, the film is about a girl’s quest to attain a size-zero figure.”

At this stage, the film’s script is ready, written by Anish Patel and Carmen Zainabadi. The director and cast are yet to be finalised.

Besides Size Zero, Siddhartha’s other films, Disco Valley and Ja Chudail Ja, are already in production. Next to go on the floors is Pool, to be directed by Kunal Roy Kapoor of Delhi Belly fame. It’s slated to be something on the lines of a Japanese murder mystery film.

“The idea is to come up with films that will create curiosity and attract audiences,” says Siddhartha. And who comes up with the out-of-the-box titles? “As a creative producer, I have to think of the titles. A title is the first step to attract audiences. And the trick is to go offbeat,” he says.
Bebo postpones trip for KJo
Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar have always been great pals. So when KJo’s 40th birthday came up, Bebo postponed her trip to Turkey to attend the big bash. “Yes, Bebo was supposed to fly to Turkey a day before the bash. But since she was very keen to attend his party, she postponed the trip,” says an insider close
to Bebo.

Personal Quotes
I'm very picky when it comes to men. I come across a man who I'm really attracted to about once every five years.
I love being outside - that's where I'm the happiest.
I feel like I'm in boot camp. On "Lost" (2004) - my first year was baptism by fire. I just was thrown in. And I had no idea what I was doing, not just on set, and not just as an actor, but as a public figure. I had no idea what I was doing. I had no idea how to cope with it, and what the best ways were to manage it. I'm constantly learning that and therefore, in learning it, I knew I didn't want to - one of the first things I knew was, I don't want to have this beast become so big and uncontrollable that I am swallowed up by it.
To put it simply - you know, a lot of people believe that the benefit of this job is fame and fortune. I believe that you pay for the fortune through the fame. I don't buy into the notion that being famous is somehow a good thing, or an exciting thing, or a wonderful thing. I think it's more cumbersome and more of a hindrance to your life than it is the other. But the fortune is fantastic. I'll take it, and I have no complaints. But it's not - you know, I didn't become an actress because I wanted to be famous. I didn't become an actress because this is the ultimate career goal of my life. I became an actress by accident. I was doing a psychological exercise with myself, challenging myself, by going to auditions. I had no idea that it would connect to a job. I had no intention for it to connect to a job. I was doing it as an exercise. So when I got a job, I, in that moment, had to sit down and go, "Do I want to be an actor?"
Even if you're unhappy, just pretend that you're happy. Eventually, your smile will be contagious to yourself. I had to learn that, I used to think, 'I'm being fake,' but you know what? Better to be fake and happy than real and miserable. - on her mindset.

Personal Quotes
I look back on some of the stuff I wore and I'm so embarrassed. I definitely blame it on this clique of girls I was friends with back then. I've been talked into wearing stuff that I didn't want to wear. Now, I like very simple, elegant things, by 'Oscar de la Renta' or Armani.
I'm in love with London. English boys are great. I completely fell in love with it over there.
What's nice about acting is that you're not just left with yourself all the time, but you get to see the world through so many different people's eyes.
Growing up on screen is painful. I have had to go through puberty with millions watching.... I hope to have a career like Jodie Foster, going from child to adult actress.
If the world were to end tomorrow, I really believe I could say I have lived a full life already - and that I have been extremely lucky.
Once you commit, you commit. You can't hold back. We all knew that the only way we would pull this [movie] off was for everyone to give everything they had. I could not hold back. On playing "Tracy" in the movie Thirteen (2003).
Whenever something bad happens, I just always have to tell myself that this is happening for a reason, and I have to be learning something from this and taking something away from this. And you just have to think about the big picture, and you have to remember just how small you are in the grand scheme of things, and that in the long run, you're probably going to be okay. So that's all I kept thinking about...just trying to make the best out of .
Oh God, I worry about everything, such as I'm gonna say something stupid. I'm not good at communicating what's going on in my head.
I just hate all that (showbusiness mingling). I just have to come back to reality for a little bit, have a real life.I'm pretty laid-back. I hang out with my friends, read, go to concerts and try and travel as much as I can. I'm not a party girl, I don't eat at the Ivy and I'm not shopping on Rodeo Drive. It's pretty easy to stay out of that if you want to. There are other places. I really like being able to go out anywhere and nobody really cares.
It is a little weird, and I do feel a little bit disoriented sometimes. I'm usually pretty shy around people and pretty private. So yeah, it is a little weird all of a sudden to see yourself everywhere with your tongue hanging out! And a pierced tongue! - on her fame.
I used to not even be able to order pizza on the phone because I was just so shy. I think that's why so much comes out on-screen, because that's my time to let go in a safe place. When you're doing that, it's all written down on paper and it's total fiction.
I'm such a crazy perfectionist, I probably stood in Linens 'n Things looking at the square plates or the round plates for, like, 10 minutes, going, "God, this is a big decision. These are my first plates! What am I going to get? What do I do?! - on being independent, and getting her own home.
And crazy, by the way, is the highest compliment I pay. Manson is definitely crazy. Hopefully I am, too.
[on dating Marilyn Manson] Everyone is so worried that I'm losing myself, but really I'm finding myself. I've never been more comfortable in my own skin.
You get a script that's not very good, and they're offering you millions of dollars, but you think: Okay, this script is so bad, I won't even do it for a million dollars... And then it gets to No. 1 at the box office, and people ask, "Don't you regret not doing that?" Not really.
[on translating scripts onto the screen]: A script can just be a blueprint, and you've got to go in and build it and color it in and paint it.
I won't just take my clothes off for anybody. It has to be the right circumstances. I couldn't have thought of a better way to do it because it wasn't a sex scene. It's a sleeping woman and somebody is singing something, which is one of the most beautiful songs written about a woman, period. And he's singing about you. (on doing her first nude scene in Across the Universe (2007))
If I go to see a Beatles film, I want it to be weird and artistic and interesting and experimental and psychedelic and dark at times and also beautiful -- and that's what this is. (on Across the Universe (2007))
I like to do movies that I don't expect everyone to like. If someone comes up to me and says, 'I hated that movie you did,' I think, at least you felt passionate about it. It stuck with you and you had some feeling about it.
I'd love to [make an album], but I've just never met people who didn't want to turn me into some pop diva.
He's the best guy friend I have. I've always hung out with guys, but it's hard to find really good guy relationships that don't get weird. And it never has with us, once. (on Across the Universe (2007) co-star Jim Sturgess)
We never have to explain anything. He can say something, or I can say something, and we automatically get it. And that's really nice when you can find somebody who needs no explanation. (on boyfriend Marilyn Manson)
Falling in love is one of the scariest and hardest things that someone can do, but it's also the most amazing thing that can happen to you.
I've always had a real fascination with Alice in Wonderland and really related to it in some way. And since I was little, people always nicknamed me Alice, even total strangers. I do know I'm always in Wonderland. And I'm definitely just as curious. I don't mind being amongst the mad people, I enjoy it.
[April 2011, Esquire Magazine] I'm into for anything. Meet a nice guy, meet a nice girl.
